Bharuch 9 December 2014
Look at the audacity of sand mafias active in interior parts of Gujarat. In photograph here is an illegal bridge built by sand mafias for transportation of sand in trucks.
This is very dangerous because the bridge has been developed in Narmada river which is not just another small or dry river.
Location of this bridge is Juna Totidara village in Jhagadia taluka. Local sarpanch and other village leaders have already asked state government to remove this bridge and control the sand mafias.
Local administration is not in action even after an incident on 18 April 2012 in which six girls died in river Narmada due to illegal construction off bridge.
On Sunday, a truck carrying sand felled in river Narmada while passing on illegal bridge. One youth died in this incident. His dead body was found by Sagar Rakshak Dal members after efforts of 14 hours.
