Amul launches ‘Milk Card’ in Gujarat – a prepaid smart card, in collaboration with State Bank of India

In a major consumer initiative, Amul in collaboration with State Bank of India has launched Amul Milk Card (prepaid smart Card) on Monday at Amul’s Mother Dairy, Gandhinagar. The card can be used to purchase products from Amul Parlours. This initiative will ease access to Amul’s wide range of products available across Amul parlours in Ahmedabad.

The Card was launched by Smt. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, SBI and Shri R.S. Sodhi, Managing Director, GCMMF Ltd. Top officials of SBI & GCMMF were also present at the launch.

The card is aimed at facilitating the customers with convenient and hassle-free mode of payment. As an introductory offer, there will be no entry fee on buying the card. The customers can obtain it for free and get the top up on their card at all Amul parlours. The minimum recharge amount is Rs. 100/- while the maximum recharge amount is fixed at Rs. 3000/-. The customers will get an SMS alert whenever the transaction is made using this Card.

Shri R S Sodhi, Managing Director, GCMMF said, that such co-branded milk card is being introduced for the first time in India. Milk and dairy products account for the largest share of expense in food items of households and such convenience in purchase of milk and milk products will benefit all households. Amul Milk is the largest brand of milk in the country with daily sales of over 100 lac litres. So, we intend to provide the benefit of this smart card to a large number of our consumers. It eliminates cash transaction on daily basis and also solves the problem of change and small denomination coins/currency.

Smt. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, SBI said that she was pleased of the association of SBI which is the largest bank of India with Amul which is India’s largest food and dairy brand. This initiative is a win-win situation for all- the customers, the cooperative and the bank. It will eliminate lot of cash handling hassles while giving convenience to customers.

The service is being launched at 10 Amul Parlours in Ahmedabad city. The company also plans to expand the service to 100 Amul parlours in next 3 months and later on to other Amul parlours across the state.
