In last one year, number of Japanese companies in Gujarat doubled, branches tripled: Takeshi Yagi

Speaking at the foundation stone laying function of Maruti Suzuki car manufacturing plant near Bechraji in north Gujarat, ambassador of Japan in India Mr. Takeshi Yagi today said, “we are delivering our commitments.”

In reference to Gujarat-Japan business relations, Takeshi Yagi pointed out that there was only one Japanese company in Gujarat in year 2002, while today there are 26 Japanese companies and 220 branches in Gujarat.

He said in last 12 months, the number of Japanese companies in Gujarat doubled and number of their branches tripled. He added, it will not take long when this number will reach 100.

“I have attended three inauguration ceremonies of Japan related factories in the second half of last year alone,” he said.

“I visisted Dahej, Vadodara, Modhera and Vadnagar during my visits to Gujarat and was impressed with excellent road connections, which I felt were as good as expressways in developed countries,” he said.

“I also visited Mundra port which is already full of Maruti Suzuki vehicles and is expected to become a gigantic export hub soon,” he said.

In reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Japan visit he said, “Abe and Modi set concrete target to double Japan FDI in India in five years and to realise 35 billion USD of public and private investment and financing from Japan to India.Infrastructure plays key role to achieve this target. High quality infrastructure such as roads and ports in Gujarat will be instrumental to attract the investment.”

He pointed out that following an example of Gujarat, other sates have been starting and competing to host investment summits and sending high level delegations to countries including Japan.

Ambassador Takeshi Yagi requested Gujarat government to continue to deliver its support to Suzuki group as well as all other companies.
