Narmada Sub-minor network works to be completed in 3 months: Anandiben

Surendranagar, DeshGujarat

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today commenced the works for laying of Narmada sub-minor canal network (through underground pipelines) at Surendranagar district’s Bamanva village near Dasada. Simultaneously, state cabinet ministers launched the works for sub-minor canals at 17 villages across 9 districts of Gujarat. Network of sub-minor canals will channelize Narmada waters directly to fields and provide seamless irrigation to over 5 lakh hectares of land.

Chief Minister said the works kick started today will be completed in three months. She then added that if any single farmer makes hurdle, then this underground pipeline laying work will delay. CM clarified that this pipeline laying work will not need land acquisition, because pipelines are to be laid 1.5 meter below surface. CM told farmers to keep vigil on whether pipes are actually laid as per prescribed measurement of 1.5 meter below surface or not. She said government is using best quality pipes for this project.

Update:

Speaking at stone laying function of Maruti Suzuki’s car manufacturing plant near Bechraji, Gujarat Chief Minister asked farmers that once the pipeline network is laid, they should see that no one punctures the pipe line to fetch extra water.

She said, “The pipeline network will be laid in three months if not a single farmer tries to obstruct the project.”

She told farmers, “once the network is ready, you should ensure that no one punctures the pipe. Such activity will decrease water supply to other farmers.”

She said, “imagine if your farm is situated at the end of the network and you don’t get water because some other farmer has punctured the pipeline somewhere. How will you feel in such case? Please don’t do that to others.”
