Geologists conduct soil/rock testing for foundation work of Statue of Unity

The initial field work for construction of world’s tallest statue featuring Sardar Patel ‘the Statue of Unity’ has started at Sadhu Tekri site near Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam in central Gujarat.

A team of over two dozen geologists including 10 foreign and 15 Indian experts explored the Sadhu Tekri island and carried out drilling at many places to collect soil and stone samples. The procedure of foundation work went on for two days. Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited(SSNNL), forest department and L&T engineers were part of the team.

The samples collected from the site will be tested in laboratory.

According to one of the engineers involved in this work, Sadhu Tekri’s height is 80 meter. It will be cut from the top in measurement of 30 meter. Thus foundation work will start from 50 meter height. Before starting the foundation work, strength of stone, measurements of foundation are being studied by engineers from England and India.
