Poisonous gas from gutter kills mother, two daughters at home

Ahmedabad

Two girls and mother died yesterday, late in the night in their house in Vastral area of Ahmedabad due to leakage of poisonous gas from gutter. The incident happened in house number B-5 of Silver City Society on Vastral road. While mother and two daughters sleeping on floor died, Govindbhai Prajapati, husband and father of victims in same house survived with his 6 months old child as they both were sleeping on bed.

Govindbhai who is originally from Rajasthan, lives in Silver City society. He runs grocery store in same society. He had his wife Ramilaben(30), daughters Sangita(3) and Lalita(2) and 6 month old baby boy in his family.

Last night he returned to his home and watched TV for some time. Later all family members went to sleep in same room. While mother and two daughters were sleeping on floor, father and son were sleeping on bed.

Vastral

At around 2.00 am, they felt strong smell and waked up. Residents of entire society felt same smell and they came out of their homes. While Govindbhai and his son, affected by gas were hospitalized in 108 ambulance, the other family members who were sleeping on floor were found dead.

Residents of Silver City suspects a tanker from some industry responsible for this incident. They alleged that a tanker dumped poisonous chemical in gutter of factory. This caused death of Govindbhai’s family members who were sleeping on floor.

City Fire Brigade Chief Minoch Dastoor reached victims’ house to check the source of tragedy. He said a gutter without gali trap arrangement or dumping of poisonous chemical could be responsible for this incident.

It should be noted here that this is second such incident in recent past. In January 2013, a mother(Shagunadevi 40) and her two children died at home in Govardhannagar area of Vatva/Shahvadi while in sleep. They too were from Rajasthan, and in that incident too, the husband survived.
