Clearances by July, Works for Nargol Port to start next year:GoG

Developer of Nargol Port has been handed over letter of intent and presently the detailed project report(DPR) work is going on. Permissions for coastal railway, environment, forest department, maritime board, construction etc are under progress. Environment clearance process is in its last phase. All these permissions are likely to arrive by July 2015. The works for port will kick off next year. These details were shared by Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama in Gujarat Assembly today in reply to Kaprada MLA Jitubhai Chaudhary’s question.

The Minister added that Rs. 3809 crore investment is likely for this port while Rs. 493 crore investment is likely for railway road connectivity for proposed port. Proposed port will provide direct employment to 1,000 and indirect employment to 20,000.

Minister Chudasama further added that the port will prove convenient for petrochemicals and pharma units located in Valsad, union territory and southern Gujarat belt. Industrial units located upto Ahmedabad and Dholera will find this port suitable for import/export.

He said Nargol port will be offshore and it will be constructed 18 km deep inside the sea and therefore there’s no question of acquisition of farmers’ land.

Ports Under Development in Gujarat

Chhara : Chhara Port will be developed by Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd. with 1 no. of coal berth of 8 MMTPA capacity in initial phase.

Dahej : The port is being developed by M/s. Sterling Biotech Ltd. The total port capacity in Phase I & II will be 41 MMTPA.

Nargol : Cargo Motors Pvt. Ltd. has been awarded Letter of Intent for development of Nargol port. The port will be developed for facilities of Container and Bulk cargo berth, with the total port capacity of around 10 MMTPA.

VansiBorsi : It was decided to get revised pre-feasibility report (PFR) prepared due to the issue of passing of gas pipeline by ONCG. The PFR has been prepared by WAPCOS. It is proposed to initiate bidding process for the port in near future.
