A memorable day for Indian community in Canada


Toronto, Canada

Ricoh Coliseum stadium was full of thousands of NRIs. It was well occupied well ahead of Modi’s arrival.

Colorful performances of NRI youths were part of the function.

Canadian Prime Minister Harper was present with Shri Modi on the stage.

Harper’s wife had dressed blue saree.

Both the leaders arrived on stage after dark for some time. People present there welcomed the leaders with cheer.

A short film on how during Harper’s rule Indo-Canada relations have progressed was shown ahead of Harper and Modi’s arrival. Opening of office of Canada in Gujarat and Canada’s invitation to then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was part of short video film.

National anthem of Canada and India were sung by a lady artist when Modi and Harper were on stage.

Harper in his brief speech mentioned Swami Vivekananda.

PM Harper announced India will issue Visa on arrival to Canadians. There was huge applause in response.


Modi in his speech called Harper a popular Prime Minister and dear friend.

Modi in initial part of his speech greeted Punjabis with Sat Sri Akal and Gujaratis with Kem Chho.

Modi recalled that Canada was one nation which became partner country of a small state Gujarat since 2003. Modi said Canada as a developed nation became partner of Gujarat and continued the partnership till now. Modi thanked Canada for this. Modi recalled how he had visited Canada.

Modi said India-Canada air journey takes 15-17 hours but Indian PM came here after 42 years. He said India and Canada jointly achieved progress in space but were reluctant to progress on ground.

When Modi said he is returning back to India tomorrow, people responded with sad voice loudly.

People were jubilant when Modi said that France will build nuclear reactor in India and Canada will supply uranium for that. Modi said nuclear energy will give great contribution to the cause of clean energy.
