Three morbidly obese kids of daily wage labourer Ramesh Nanwan from Vanjdi village of Una Taluka in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district have started getting treatment at Ahmedabad’s Civil hospital. Their tests and case study kicked off today after they arrived at Civil hospital in special ambulance arranged by the state government.

Gujarat government has decided to treat these three extra ordinarily obese kids after reports in media that father of these kids was unable to spend for their treatment. Father of kids had in one interview said that he was ready to sell his kidney for treatment of his kids who are unable to walk due to extra ordinary obesity.

The district administration provided Below Poverty Line and Mamta card to the family so that the kids can be treated for obesity. Their treatment medical expenses are to be borne by the Gujarat state government. Five-year-old Yogita (33kg), three-year-old Amisha (47 kg) and one-year-old Harsh (17 kg) were in the past treated for obesity, but the cost of medicines were beyond their reach, due to which they were discharged from Hospital.

“I have four kids and my elder daughter Bhavika (eight years) does not suffer from obesity. The weight of three of my other kids started increasing, three to four months after their birth, which resulted in extreme obesity”, Nanwan said.

“I am thankful to the government and hopeful that my kids will live a normal life”, Nanwan said.
