Gita Shlok Champion Muslim girl contributes winning prize to Gujarat CM Fund

Maryam Siddiqui, a 12-year-old Muslim girl studying in standard 6th today dedicated Rs 10,000 prize she received Bhagwad Geeta Shlok Pathan competition ‘Bhagwad Gita Champions League’ in Mumbai(Maharashtra) to Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel as her contribution to Chief Minister’s Cleanliness Fund.

Maryam Siddiqui won Gita Champions League in March this year which was participated by 5,000 students from 195 schools.

A student of Cosmopolitan High School, Mira Road, Maryam had said after her victory that she has always been intensely curious about religions. “I have always been inquisitive about religions and I often read up on them during my free time. So when my teacher told me about this contest I thought it would be a good chance to understand what the book is about,” said Maryam.

Maryam’s parents had supported her idea of participating in the contest. “Our family believes that one needs to respect and accept all religions. No religion preaches hatred or wrong”, her proud father, Asif Siddiqui said.

Teachers at school are proud of Maryam’s achievement and have praised her excellence in school exams and in the contest, too.
