Gujarat CM lays stone of Rs 58.10 crore drinking water, gutter line for Surendranagar

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today laid the foundation stone of Rs.58.10-crore drinking water and underground sewer line project for Surendranagar-Dudhrej citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, she said the project will provide 140 litres potable water per head per day, looking to the needs of the town for 2044, and it is to be completed in one year with the liability of repairs on the contractor. This is part of 34 development works totaling Rs.401-crore under the Gujarat’s Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister’s Urban Development Programme for Surendranagar.

The Chief Minister said that it is the responsibility of the people-oriented government to include all the 159 nagarpalikas and eight municipal corporations in the state with appropriate drinking water and gutter facilities on top priority.

She listed other people’s welfare programmes undertaken by the government, such as comprehensive medical checkup — including diabetes, breast and cervical cancer, physical disability, dental and eye checkup – with people’s participation.

Other highlights of the function were presentation on ‘Emerging Surendranagar’ and ‘Glance at Surendranagar’s Development’, felicitation of meritorious students in various competitions, presentation of Rs.1-lakh cheque towards the CM’s Cleanliness Fund, and a variety entertainment programmed.

District’s Guardian Minister Vijaybhai Rupani said the drought-prone Zalawad region got its facelift few years back when the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi initiated carrying the Narmada canal waters to the Dholidhaja dam, and then Mrs Anandiben Patel ensuring the water reached every home.

Minister of State Jayantibhai Kavadia said that Surendranagar once described as a backward district is no more so owing to the state government’s special attention to the region.

The State 50-Point Implementation Programme Committee Chairman I.K. Jadeja, MLA Varshaben Doshi, Surendranagar-Dudhrej Nagarpalika President Vipin Toliya and Collector Udit Agrawal also spoke on the occasion.

Others present on the occasion included Parliamentary Secretary Shamjibhai Chauhan, Rajya Sabha Member Shankarbhai Vegad, MP Devjibhai Fatepara, MLAs Poonambhai Makwana, Kiritsinh Makwana, District Panchayat President Bachubhai Patel, GUDC MD D.D.S. Murlikrishnan, DDO J.K. Astik, Vice-President Kalpanaben Dhoria and District BJP President Dilipbhai Patel.
