277 village ponds in north Gujarat filled with Narmada – Kadana waters

The government of Gujarat today shared the details on release of water to ponds and other water bodies in north Gujarat through Sujlam Suflam and Narmada main canal network.

According to a note, Department of irrigation, government of Gujarat has filled 277 ponds with Narmada water through 9 pipelines connected to Narmada main canal. The government has also released water in 338 km long Kadana-Banas Sujlam Suflam spreading canal from Kadana and Narmada dam.This has made sowing possible for north Gujarat farmers.

29 village ponds are filled with water by lifting Narmada canal water as high as a 45-storey building. This has been possible through a 79.60 km long and 3.25 diameter underground pipeline from Changa to Dantiwada dam under Changa-Dantiwada-Sipu pipeline scheme for water supply. This has made irrigation in over 3500 ha land possible in Banaskantha district.

Due to recharge of underground water, farmers have witnessed increased water level in bore-wells and wells by 25 to 30 ft in 4 km area on both sides of Sujlam Suflam spreading canal.

In 158.70 – 274.345 km stretch of this canal around 46,000 ha land gets benefit of irrigation water. Water has been released in 14 drains connected to this canal.

53 village ponds and 6 check dams in Mahesana district are filled with water to cover 1600 ha additional irrigation area.

28 village ponds are filled with water in Gandhinagar district while 2 river, 9 drains, 73 village ponds and 42 check dams are filled with water in Patan district.

In Banaskantha district, 1 river and number of village ponds and check dams are filled with water.
