Amitabh Bachchan unveils ‘Chaalo Gujarat 2015’ postage stamp

Ahmedabad

A postage stamp depicting the spirit behind “Chaalo Gujarat 2015”—the World Gujarati Conference—has been unveiled by Bollywood megastar Shri Amitabh Bachchan in a symbolic gesture just prior to the beginning of the three-day conference in New Jersey, USA. The soft launch in India is sure to stimulate a tempo for the extravaganza that is to follow where a grand launch awaits.

Between July 31 and August 2, the fourth edition of the largest congregation of the non-resident Gujarati community in a foreign shore will be organized by the Association of Indian Americans of North America (AIANA). This will see the celebration of art, culture, color, vigor and exuberance of the state of Gujarat which they represent and are so ingrained in their way of life.

It is for the first time that the Bollywood icon has extended his personal endorsement to an event of the Gujarati community. But despite displaying an eagerness to attend the conference, a tight schedule did not permit him to do so.

“My best wishes to the entire team of Chaalo Gujarat 2015. A busy schedule does not allow me to travel this year to attend the conference in New Jersey. I hope to be present in the next edition,” said Mr. Bachchan.

A commercial roll out of the stamps is expected after the conclusion of the mega event. For AIANA, its true style guided by the principles of Atra-Tatra-Sarvatra (Here-There-Everywhere) gets typified in an innovative move that will be for keeps.

“It is a moment of immense pride that Mr. Bachchan himself congratulated us for conceptualizing the stamp and while he is well aware of the objectives behind organizing the conference. For us, we could not have thought of anyone else for the first unveiling,” said Praful Nayak, Chief, AIANA India.
