Transactions in the used car market in India as well as Gujart has picked up pace in the last few months with Maruti and Hyndai still being the top favourites of the people, a latest survey conducted by a well known auto portal has claimed.

The study has attributed the festive season including just gone by Rathyatra and good rains as as the reason behind the old cars sale surge especially in Gujarat.

‘Festival season is also one of the major factors supporting the revival of used car business.Rains which have finally arrived in Gujarat after much delay has buoyed the spirits of the rural markets and demand from rural markets has also seen an uptick, the survey done by BigGaddi released here today said claiming that in spite of other manufacturers vying for market share, Maruti and Hyundai still rule the roost in the used car market.

Of the total transactions happening in the used car market, approximately 70-75% share is of cars bearing logos of Maruti and Hyundai. Low maintenance cost, good resale value and wide dealer network are the main reasons that these cars rule the market, the study said.

Also, with the declining fuel prices and easy availability of loans from banks and auto finance companies, a huge upswing is seen in the demand of used two-wheelers. Due to rising aspirational values and long distance commuting, people now want their own bikes and scooters , rather than depending on public transport system, it said.

Majority share of the used two wheeler market is taken up by bikes and that too from Hero Honda, Honda Motorcycles and Bajaj. A remarkable shift is seen in the buying pattern of the people. Buyers and sellers of used car now prefer to use online automobile websites first and do a complete survey. They look at all the options available in the market and then personally contact or visit only 2-3 shortlisted dealers. This pattern is acceptable to dealers also as their stock is now visible to a larger audience instead of just the people residing in nearby areas, Ms. Jainee Gordhandas, CEO, BigGaddi says
“People now lead a truly hectic lives and gone are the days when customers had time to visit each dealer personally. Now when every Tom , Dick and Harry has a mobile in his hand, online mhas become the buzzword. And car buying is no different.”
