Former Gujarat minister, MP Sanat Mehta passes away

Former member of parliament(Lok Sabha, Surendranagar) and finance minister in Madhavsinh Solanki government, veteran left tilted socialist activist Sanat Mehta passed away today. He was 90. He had suffered cardiac arrest on Tuesday night. He was probably the last prominent leader belonging to MahaGujarat movement era. In last years of his life he was active as columnist in leading Gujarati newspaper. His last column was in fact published today in newspaper.

Mehta served as a Finance Minister of Gujarat state and member in various government bodies. He served as the Chairman of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd. He had been a non-executive director of Gujarat Sidhee Cement Ltd. He served as a Director of RT Exports Ltd. He was B.S.c.

The funeral procession will begin at 5:00 PM from his residence (34, Sakuntal Park, Manjalpur, Vadodara). The last rites will be held at Bahucharaji Crematorium. He is survived by his son and daughter.

On twitter, Chief Minister Anandiben Patel said: My condolences to the bereaved family of Shri Sanat Mehta. May his soul rest in peace! Former Finance Minister, MP & one of the leaders of MahaGujarat Movement Shri Sanat Mehta will be remembered for his contribution to Gujarat.

Congress leader Ahmed Patel said: Sanat Mehtaji dedicated his life for the country. He was a champion of the poor, the voice of workers and a dedicated Congressman. I was fortunate to have worked with very closely with Sanat Mehtaji. His demise is a great loss for me. My condolences to the family.

Former minister Jay Narayan Vyas tweeted: An era comes to an end! Giant amongst the fellow humans and my mentor Sanatbhai is no more.
