With Gujarat Agricultural Lands Ceilings Act, the Gujarat government has made a way to help its favourite businessmen by giving them precious agricultural land usurping the rights of tribal, members of Baxi Panch communities, dalits and cattle holders, national spokespersons and Congress MLA Shaktisinh Gohil charged.
To make its plan smooth, he said, Congress members were suspended from the House and the amendment bill was passed. The government has taken advantage of the recent Supreme Court judgment which declared that grassland should be treated as agricultural land. Available land is massive. With an eye on this newly available land the government brought changes in the Gujarat Agricultural Lands Ceilings Act by which this land can be given to industrialists.
Explaining the objective of the original Act, he said that it was to take away excess land from people and give them to the needy tribal, members of Baxi Panch communities, dalits and cattle holders so that more people have land. Now the land available under the Supreme Court verdict can change lives of lakhs of poor people of tribal, members of Baxi Panch communities, dalits and cattle holders. But the government is interested in its favourite businessmen and industrialists and so it changed the Act. Now this land can be given to industrialists.
He said that Congress will take the issue before public and expose evil design of the ruling BJP to gift land worth billions to its favourites.
He said that the Congress brought this law in 1960 to help tribal, members of Baxi Panch communities, dalits and cattle holders. Congress gave this land to lakhs of needy people, but none has been provided land under the Act since last 13 years. BJP favours businessmen only. Since the law did not allow and government got lots of surplus land, it changed the Law to suit its corrupt practices.
