GTU Formula race car for Formula Student India 2016 launched

A 30-member team of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) comprising of 10 colleges will participate in the Formula Student INDIA (FSI) 2016. The Race will be held at Buddh International Circuit, New Delhi from 23rd January to 28th January 2016. In the event 50 Teams from all over India will be showing up with their cars and showcase their talent.
GT Motorsports – Formula Student team GTU will represent GTU at FSI 2016. The roll-out of GTM16 race car event was held in University’s Chandkheda Campus on 12th January 2016, Tuesday. Goal of GTU team is to win the race in New Delhi and then target is to win similar race in Germany or Italy or Australia. GTU is proud of work done by 30 students & professors. Students should develop car running on solar cells or electric car, Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of GTU said.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sudhir Gupte, Head of Automobile Engineering from A.D.Patel Institute of Technology gave tips to students. He advised team to take trial of Formula Race Car on Express Way with permission. He also advised team to consider all technical aspects. He said that compliance to rulebook is key to success. Prof. Mazahar Sheikh who headed the project appreciated teamwork of students from various colleges. J.C. Lilani, I/c Registrar of GTU told students that youth can do wonder.
Commenting on this year’s competition Team leader Devak Bhardwaj said: It took 10 months to make the Formula Race Car. Total project cost was Rs. 14 to 15 lakh. Parts of the car were imported from USA, UK and Italy. The car can have maximum speed of 130 km per hour. Weight of the car is 220 Kg. Formula Student is a great opportunity to compete at an international level, working in a competitive and professional arena with teams from all around the world. This is a fantastic opportunity for engineering students to apply their academic knowledge in a real world competitive environment. We are delighted to be competing at Buddh International Circuit, which is a real honour in itself.
