Goa government today decided to waive the stamp duty for International Society for Krishna Consciousness’ (ISKCON) project at Chorao island, 10 km from here.
“ISKCON is coming up with a facility at Chorao island on 23,824,75 square metres of land through a gift deed,” Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar told PTI after the cabinet meeting.
The government had announced in the last budget that it would exempt gifts or donations to educational institutions and charitable organisations registered in Goa before 2000 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, from payment of stamp duty, he said.
“ISKCON is registered in Maharashtra under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, and the state registrar was of the opinion that registration under Societies Registration Act in Goa is not mandatory,” the Chief Minister said.
