Five new Gujarat High Court Judges take oath

Ahmedabad

Five new additional Judges today took oath at Gujarat High Court in Ahmedabad.

They are Ashutosh Jayantilal Shastri, Biren Aniruddh Vaishnav, Alpesh Yashwantbhai Kogje, Arvindsingh Ishwarsingh Supaiya and Bipinkumar Navalchandbhai Karia.

Minister of State for Law Pradipsinh Jadeja, Judges of Gujarat High Court, Advocate General Kamal Trivedi, Additional Advocate General Prakash Jani, Government lawyer, Public Prosecutor, Bar Council chief, High Court Bar Association chief, other members, senior lawyers were among those present on this occasion.

38 new additional judges were appointed yesterday to five high courts, bringing down the vacancy position from 465 to 427. With these appointments, the vacancy position has gone down from 465 as on March one to 427. The total authorised strength of the 24 high courts is 1,056 judges but vacancies have continued despite efforts by the judiciary and the executive to reduce it.

Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda yesterday tweeted about the new appointments: “More fresh appointments to HCs — 10 judges to Madhya Pradesh HC and 5 Judges to Gujarat HC appointed. Hope disposal of cases will pick up.”
