Gujarat government today made announcement that it has taken a decision to exempt small salt producers from industrial salt VAT. As per this decision, the state government has given exemption from tax to those salt producers who have given land on lease. In addition to this, salt producers having plot smaller than 10 acre for salt production or cooperative groups of salt producers are also exempted from tax. Salt producers who sell entire salt they produce to only edible salt manufactures are also exempted from VAT. Such small salt producers are exempted from registration, form filling and tax paying process under VAT. These details were shared by Finance minister Saurabh Patel
