It is not clear whether constable Chandrakant Makwana was sleeping or was into questioning session when criminal Manish hit a steel pipe on constable’s head, Suspect Manish escaped the Crime Branch campus. Police said it is in search of suspect Manish on Rajasthan side. A team of 3 police inspectors and 5 police sub inspectors has been formed to arrest Manish who is on run.

According to media briefing by Crime Branch, yesterday evening, constable Chandrakant Makwana based on information had brought one Manish Shravankumar Balai from Sambhar-Rajasthan in connection with his possible involvement in narcotics and loot related crimes. Makwana is part of Police Sub Inspector Chaudhary’s squad. Manish hit a steel pipe on head of Makwana and escaped. The incident took place in Sub Inspector K.G.Chaudhary’s office. Police Sub Inspector and PSO were present in the Crime Branch campus at that time but there are separate squad offices in the campus and something that happens in one squad office is not always audible in other office. No sound of clash or attack was heard in campus by anyone.

When asked whether CCTV system was functional during the incident, the Crime Branch in its media briefing said CCTV cameras are not installed inside the office. They are installed outside.

The Crime Branch didn’t deny lethargy on PSO’s part so far as escape act of Manish is concerned. Dog squad has tracked the route of escape which is aligned with PSO’s table and parking lot. Manish could have jumped the wall then on to escape the campus.

It is learnt that after initial questioning of Manish, other police men left the place while constable Makwana continued to be with Manish in order to guard him. The incident could have taken place post 2-3 am. Makwana was found dead at 7.00 am.
