Congress holds protest at Pravin Patel’s residence in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar

About two dozen Congress workers including many Congress Councillors in Gandhinagar today rushed to newly elected Mayor Pravin Patel Quality’s house and shouted slogans. The Congress workers were detained by police for holding protest without having permission.

Pravin Patel, originally from BJP had contested the election as Congress candidate. After winning the election on Congress ticket by thin margin, Patel rejoined BJP as Mayoral candidate. He was elected as Mayor with support of BJP Councillors. Both BJP and Congress had won same number of seats in recently concluded general elections for Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. Board meeting was held yesterday for election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. BJP fielded Pravin Patel – a Congress Councillor for the post of Mayor. With support of BJP Councillors he was successfully elected as Mayor.

Congress Councillors protesting outside Pravin Patel’s house today said they would not allow Patel to take possession of Mayor’s chair and would offer him garland of shoes. Congress leader Nishit Vyas said Pravin Patel was made Standing Committee Chairman in last term when Congress came to power. Even in this term he was offered that post, but he joined BJP.

It should be mentioned that Patel had yesterday said that his decision to join the BJP was owing to 10% reservation declared by party in favor of economically weaker section of general category people and also due to infighting within Congress party.

Pravin Patel meanwhile today suspended his Facebook account which was full of his campaign pictures in favor of Congress party.
