Gandhinagar

Finally central government’s Ujala scheme is going to be launched in Gujarat. The scheme has been launched in most of the states. Gujarat is one of the last states to have this scheme.

State Chief Minister Anandiben Patel is going to launch the scheme in Gujarat on May 26 which is the anniversary of the Narendra Modi government in centre.

Under this scheme, the stat government will distribute one crore LED bulbs at subsidised rates of Rs 80-85 per piece. The bulb will have 3-year replacement warranty. It will be 7-8 watts bulb with luminosity of 900 lumens. Each household will get ten bulbs maximum in first phase. The amount will be charged through electricity bill in eight to ten installments. Availability of bulb will be at offices of power distribution companies, bill cash counters and central government company Energy Efficient Services Limited(EEEL) kiosks.

The state government will purchase the bulbs from EEEL and distribute them. Market cost of such bulb is Rs 250-300.

Total number of LEDs distributed as on 18 MAY 2016 08:10 am was 10,47,59,090 across India under Ujala scheme.

The National LED programme was launched by the Prime Minister on January 2015 with a target of replacing 77 crore incandescent lamps with LED bulbs. EESL distribution of LED bulbs across the country has as in March resulted in energy savings of more than 2.66 crore kWh every day and has helped avoid peak demand of over 1944 MW. This has helped in reduction of over 21,550 tonnes of CO2 per day which is estimated to have a cost savings of Rs 10.64 crore per day.
