Limitations of Ahmedabad railway station, and good news for Delhi connectivity
June 03, 2016
Ahmedabad
Locomotives of Indian Railways have capacity to pull 26 coaches but in many trains connecting Ahmedabad railway station there are 19-22 coaches and therefore passengers can’t get enough confirmed tickets.
When this issue was raised by media persons at the press conference held by Ahmedabad Railway Division railway manager Rahul Agrawal yesterday, he replied it like this:
– To increase the number of coaches, first we need to increase the length of railway platform.
– Moreover we have capacity to maintain only upto 19 coaches in Ahmedabad yard and therefore we are not able to increase the number of coaches in 54trains originating from Ahmedabad.
– We are anyway going to uplift the capacity of washing line by pumping in Rs 5.50 crore.
Agrawal had organized press conference to announce Rail Humsafar Saptah which was held during 26 May – 1st June.
Meanwhile it is learnt that Ahmedabad railway station has not attracted redevelopment project like Surat and Gandhinagar because for such project it is necessary to have clear title of land which is not in Ahmedabad’s case.
Ahmedabad – Himmatnagar broad gauge
Agrawal said Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar stretch has presently one broad gauge and one meter gauge line parallel. The meter gauge line will be converted to broad gauge, permission for which has been granted. The project will take three years to complete. After conversion of second line to broad gauge more trains will be operated between Ahmedabad and Delhi.
