Fire in the ancillary unit of Tata Nano plant

A major fire broke out in an ancillary unit of Tata Nano plant situated in its adjoining vendors park in GIDC area near Sanand in Ahmedabad district causing an estimated loss to the tune of lakhs of rupees.
Additional Chief Fire Officer Rajesh Bhatt said that the the fire broke out in Supreme Industries, one of the several ancillaries of Tata Nano which makes rubber mats for the plant, at around 1 pm. Ready products (rubber mats), raw material, equipment etc were damaged in the incident during which no loss of life has been reported.
He said that fire fighting vehicles from Sanad, Ahmedabad and from Nano plant and other industrial units in the area rushed to the spot immediately to control it.
The exact reason behind the fire is not yet known however it is most likely short circuit caused by overheating, he said.
The fire was controlled after over two hours of operation. The Nano plants operation was not affected owing to the fire.
