In pictures: Communal harmony further in display ahead of Ahmedabad Rath Yatra

Ahmedabad: Communal harmony was further in display today in Ahmedabad ahead of annual Rath Yatra festival. At least two delegations of Muslims visited Jagannath Mandir Mahant Dilipdasji Maharaj and offered him silver gifts – a replica of Sidi Saiyad mosque jali and chariot.

In another development, Mahant Dilipdasji visited Prem Darwaja area close to Dariapur in wall city and inaugurated plaque of Mahant Saryudasji chowk. He also inaugurated Kaumi Ekta circle along with city Mayor Gautam Shah. The circle has been developed by local councillor Hasan Lala. Shahpur MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh, senior police officials among others were present on this occasion.

It should be noted that couple of days back Mahant Dilipdasji Maharaj had attended Iftar of MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh organized under Kaumi Ekta Samiti. In this iftar Mahant offered dates to MLA Sheikh and others. Trustee of Jagannath Mandir along with others had joined this event.

Shahpur and Dariapur are Muslim populated area through which Rath Yatra passes through every year. Earlier Rath Yatra was considered difficult event for police and administration due to occurrence of communal violance mostly in Dariapur and Shahpur areas, but for last few years Muslims are seen welcoming Rath Yatra, taking prashad and helping if wooden wheels of Rath face some problem.
