Power surplus Gujarat offers supply to Railways, meeting on feasibility soon

Gandhinagar: Electricity Surplus Gujarat today offered to supply power to railways on mutually beneficial basis.

A high level meeting of the departmental official will soon be held after which a feasibility report on the offer would be submitted to the railway ministry.

Gujarat Energy Minister Mr. Saurabhbhai Patel today put forth the offer during a meeting with the Minister of Railways Mr. Suresh Prabhu at the latter’s office in New Delhi.

During the meeting, Mr Pate informed the Railways Minister that Gujarat can supply power to the Railways which can be in the mutual interest of both sides.

A press release issued by the state government here today said that Mr. Prabhu positively responded and directed his senior officers to look into
the matter and see the possibilities. In this regard, senior officers’ level meeting will be held separately to submit the feasibility report to the Railways Ministry soon.

Mr. Patel also raised other issues of railways pertaining to Gujarat including the rationalisation of coal freight in long term during the courtesy meet that lasted for half an hour, the release said adding that the Railway Minister assured him to do the needful to resolve all the concerns.
