All school girls to get free sanitary napkins, biometric attendance system for teachers in all schools: Anandiben

Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today inaugurated the modern Seva Sadan for Mahuva taluka in Bhavnagar district, built at cost of Rs.12.86-crore for providing timely civic amenities with application of technology to the citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that biometric system will be installed for teachers to mark attendance in all schools all over the state, on the lines of a system successfully implemented in Mahuva taluka. This was necessitated following complaints of teachers playing truant.

In another historic decision, she said the government will provide sanitary napkins to all school girl students in the state free-of-cost. She said that Mahuva APMC encouraged Kalsar village women to make 6,000 sanitary napkins at a cost of Rs.2 each, as against minimum market price of Rs.8. Mahuva APMC paid Rs.2.51-lakh to Swachchata Abhiyan. She unveiled a brochure with details of how modern machinery could do the job.

She felicitated the women and lauded the Bhavnagar district authorities for developing Kalsar as a ‘Skilled Village’. She handed over a cheque of Rs.79-lakh to Sarvottam Dairy for the benefit of 133 Sakhi Mandali women for auto milk collection.

Mrs. Patel said that whopping Rs.2,500-crore has been allotted for rural roads, as all village roads in the state are proposed to be completed at a cost of Rs.5,000-crore in two years. She laid the foundation stone of Bhanvad-Jadra Road to be built at a cost of Rs.3.60-crore, and announced Rs.8.50-crore for taking up Mahuva-Kotda Road.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the affluent to surrender gas subsidy, she said the step has helped two lakh poor families get free gas connection. She said municipal corporations, municipalities and 6,000 villages have achieved 100 per cent target in constructing toilets. She felicitated sarpanchs of 84 villages in Bhavnagar district for achieving 100 percent target.

She said that farmers of the state are paying only one percent interest on bank loan, the rest being paid by the State Government, for which the latter has paid Rs.400-crore to the banks as part of its balance contribution.

Earlier, Collector Vanchhanidhi Pani delivered the welcome address. DDO Ayush Oak presented a movie on the district’s achievements in Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.Those present at the function included MLAs Vibhavariben Dave, Bhavnaben Makwana, Keshubhai Nakrani, Jitubhai Vaghani, Shivabhai Gohil, BJP District President Mahendrabhai Sarvaiya, Mahuva Taluka Panchayat President R.C. Makwana, office-bearers of district and taluka, members of the bar association and prominent citizens.
