Gujarat bags National Tourism Awards under 3 categories

New Delhi/Gandhinagar: Gujarat has been adjudged the winner under three categories of the National Tourism Awards 2014-15 which were distributed by Loksabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Union Minister of State for Tourism (Independent charge) Mahesh Sharma at a function held for the purpose at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Gujarat minister of state for Tourism Jayesh Radadia and Commissioner of tourism N. Srivastava (IFS), Commissioner of Tourism on behalf of the state received the awards for ‘Best Film Promotion Friendly State Award-1 st Prize, the State for Most Innovative Use of Information Technology – Social media / Mobile App Award and the Best State for Comprehensive Development of Tourism Award.

It is the 3 rd straight victory for the state under the Best Film Promotion Friendly State category while it has been chosen as the joint winner for the Most Innovative Use of Information Technology category.

Notably, during 2015 the number of domestic tourist visits to states/ UTs in India was 1432 million as compared to 1282 million in 2014 registering a growth of 11.63% over 2014. During the same period Gujarat recorded 36.3 million domestic tourist visits and climbed to the 9 th spot in the list of the most frequented states by domestic tourists in India.

Commenting on the achievement of corporation, Mr. Srivastava Commissioner of Tourism and MD, TGCL said, “We are very proud to have such a dedicated team and are confident that with their consistent effort, the organization will continue to win many such accolades in the future as well.”
