Gandhinagar: Whether you believe in caste based politics or not, it is very much there in existence. If we view today’s cabinet through dimension of caste groups, out of total 25 ministers, 8 are Patels, 8 are from Other Backward Class(OBC), 3 are Kshatriyas, 2 are from Schedule Tribes(ST), 1 is from Schedule Castes(SC), 1 Jain, 1 Sindhi and 1 Brahmin.
Segregation in cabinet rank: 3 Patels, 2 OBC, 1 each ST, SC, Jain, Kshatriya. Segregation in Minister of States(MoS) rank: 5 Patels, 6 OBC, 2 Khshatriya, 1 each ST and Brahmin.
Thus Patidars continue to enjoy upper hand in BJP government in Gujarat. OBCs are equally placed but there are many castes among OBCs while Patidar is almost one caste.
