Narmada dam continues to overflow, rain in Gujarat inches close to half way mark

Ahmedabad: Several dams across Gujarat including the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam reservoir continued to overflow for the third consecutive day.
Moderate rains lashed many parts of the state during last 24 hours bringing the average monsoon rain figures in the state quite close to half way mark.

A total of 193 talukas of 32 districts (of total 33) experienced light to moderate rains with Mandvi in Kutch recording highest of 75 mm.

Ahmedabad city had a scanty 2 mm rains with mostly sprinkles .
Sanand got 66 mm. Gir Somnath, Kheda, Chhota Udepur, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Dangs also received moderate rains.
With this the rain figures for the state has reached 49.35% inching quite close to the half way mark.
South Gujarat: 52.33%
Saurashtra region: 52.33%
East Central Gujarat region: 42.06%
North Gujarat region: 40.90%
Kutch region: 48.49%
Gujarat total: 49.35%
The met department has not predicted any heavy rains in the coming 24 hours, however moderate rains are likely to continue in some parts.

The water level in the Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam reservoir, situated in Kevadiya in Narmada district which crossed the highest level of 121.92 meter in the wee hours of August 6 is still over 3 meters above it owing to continuous release of water from Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.

Juj and Keliya dams in Navsari district today also overflew owing to flooding of rivers due to rains in their catchment areas in Dangs district. Over two dozen villages have been put on alert after the overflow in the two dams.
