Sarangpur/Ahmedabad: A place where Pramukh Swami’s body is going to be cremated has been finalized.

According to Aksharvatsal Swami of BAPS, the place where Pramukh Swami will be cremated is located in straight line opposite the grand Sarangpur Mandir at a point where it will be in opposite direction of Shastriji Maharaj’s memorial. The two straight lines connecting the funeral place to Shastriji memorial and Sarangpur Mandir will form 90 degree angle, and Pramukh Swami’s funeral place will be exactly at that angle.

Generally in Sanatan Hindu tradition, sadhus are buried in sitting position which is called Samadhi. However BAPS Swaminarayan sadhus are not buried but cremated in fire which is general Hindu tradition among non-sadhus.

Funeral of Pramukh Swami will take place as per Vaidik tradition.

Among other dignitaries, BJP president Amit Shah is going to attend the funeral.

It is not decided at this point whether his Smriti Mandir will be constructed at the place of funeral in future, but such construction is very much possible, and the funeral place has space for that.

Rejecting the requests of others, Pramukh Swami had decided to live rest of life in BAPS Sarangpur campus only when his health was worsening. It was because he had memories of his Guru attached to this place.

Pramukh Swami’s Guru Shastriji Maharah had passed away at the age of 86 in Sarangpur only in 1951. Under Pramukh Swami’s leadership a Yagnapurush Smruti Mandir was opened in 1981 in Sarangpur campus in memory of Shastriji Maharaj. The Sarangpur Mandir of Swaminarayan sect was inaugurated in 1916.
