Plastic industry in Gujarat slated to grow upto 20%: AIPMA

Ahmedabad: Foreseeing healthy expansion opportunities, The All India Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA) is bullish about growth in Gujarat. The seven decade old apex body of the plastics industry in India is steadily liaisoning with stakeholders to help more companies set up base in the state. To further the cause, AIPMA unveiled its maiden West Zone branch office in Ahmedabad today, at Mondeal Heights, next to Hotel Novotel.

“Gujarat is among the few states to enunciate a separate policy for the plastics industry. Gujarat state, along with Maharashtra accounts for 65% of the national plastics industry. We felt time is ripe to push further and take full benefit of the advantages available. The new AIPMA office inaugurated today is an affirmative response to our commitment to Gujarat,” said Arvind M. Mehta, Chairman, Governing Council, AIPMA. At the crux of activities are ways to derive more advantage of Gujarat’s Scheme for Financial Assistance to Plastics Industry, available for an operative period from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019. This stipulates interest subsidy and VAT incentives for companies manufacturing plastics, Mr Mehta added.

“AIPMA is working hard to bust myths related to the plastics industry and retain the faith of the government and the common man. More often, green crusaders have shown plastics in poor light, belittling the many benefits. On our part Consistent representations are being made to the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) for strict rules to bag plastics and promote recycling. Research and development is happening at international levels to extract the good out of plastics. It has found use in space science, health, infrastructure, in solar energy, printing and packaging as a viable alternative. Gujarat will show the way in time to come,” said Kailash Murarka, Chairman, PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017.

In tune with the theme of the 10th edition of PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017, an international plastics exhibition & conference held every three years, scheduled to be held next year, AIPMA is forging ahead with a strategic drive to assert the environment friendliness of plastics.

PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017 will be held at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai from January 19—23, 2017. It will have over 1500 exhibitors, nearly 2 lakh business visitors, whopping 90,000 sq. meters of exhibition area, 25 participating countries and over Rs. 2,000 crore of business expected to be generated. Mr. Mehta said that Environment World Congress will also be held as part of PLASTIVISION INDIA 2017.

The Indian plastics industry is growing at a rate of over 15% as against an average projected growth of 7.5%. Nearly 50,000 micro, small and medium enterprises are involved in this industry. Plastics account for over 15% of India’s GDP.
