With latest spell on monsoon, North Gujarat tops the tally in rain percentage, state average reaches 62.25%

Ahmedabad: Two days of moderate to very heavy downpour in parts of North Gujarat has catapulted it as the top region in the state in average rainfall figure this monsoon so far with 63.95% leaving behind South Gujarat which is now closely at second place with 62.21% while the state average has become 62.25 %.

In rainfall percentage so far, district wise Valsad (91.73%) was on the top of the table while Vadodara (36.63%) was at the bottom of the tally. Ahmedabad with 39.81% was the fifth lowest in this regard. As per the actual rain figures also Valsad tops the tally with 1974 mm so far while Surendranagar with 213 mm was the lowest. Kucth with 215 mm and Botad 216 mm were second and third lowest receivers of rainfall so far in terms of actual amount.

In the last 24 hours 174 talukas of 32 districts experienced rains with some parts of North Gujarat seeing very heavy downpour and adjoining Saurashtra and Kutch seeing heavy rainfall. Kheda district in Central Gujarat also saw heavy downpour. Ahmedabad city with continuous drizzle has seen around 30 mm of rain while the district average was around 20 mm.
Radhanpur in Patan district has recorded the maximum rainfall of 188 mm (over seven inches) while Santalpur of the same district has seen 143 mm. Mahudha in Kheda district experienced 102 mm of rains while Dasada, Dhranghdra and Wadhvan in Surendranagar district have seen 83, 73 and 69 mm respectively. Halvad in Morbi saw 68 mm of rains.

Meanwhile with the latest spell of rains North Gujarat has left South Gujarat behind in rain percentage. Saurashtra region is at third place in this regard with 59.62%, East Central Gujarat with 56.79% is at fourth while Kutch with 54.82% is at the fifth and the last place.

District wise Vadodara with 36.63% was at the lowest rank in regard and Valsad which has almost completed its average rainfall with 91.73% so far was on the top. Ahmedabad with 39.81% was at the fifth place from below. Surendranagar (36.77%), Botad (38.58%) and Bharuch (39.25%) are the other three districts among the five most rain deficient districts in the state.

The Met department has predicted light to moderate rainfalls across the state in the coming days with the easing up of the low pressure over neighbouring Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
