At least 3 shocks including 4.4 intensity moderate tremor felt in Saurashtra region, no casualty

Ahmedabad: A moderate tremor of 4.4 intensity on Richter scale today hit Saurashtra region of Gujarat.

Two lighter tremors of 1.6 and 2.5 intensity were also felt in neighboring Kutch and Saurashtra region respectively.

As per the information received from the Seismological Research Institute Gandhinagar, the strongest among the three of 4.4 intensity was epicentered 50 km West South West of Mangrol in the Arabian sea and was felt at 1223 pm later at 1230 pm another jolt of comparatively lighter intensity at 2.5 was felt and was centered 54 West South West of Mangrol in the sea. The Third one of much lighter 1.6 intensity was centered 31 km NNW from Bhachau in Kutch.

The 4.4 intensity quake was felt at several places in Junagadh and adjoining Gir Somnath district, however no reports of casualty has emernged so far.

In the last one week (since August 21) as many as 23 light or moderate tremors have been felt in Gujarat and all were in and around geologically sensitive Kutch and Saurashtra region. In 2016 so far the number of tremors in Gujarat has crossed 60.
