Ahmedabad airport runway recarpeting works over, normalcy to return from 1st October
September 02, 2016
Ahmedabad: There’s a good news for fliers using the Sardar Patel international airport in Ahmedabad. Recarpeting work of 3.5 km runway has been over before time.
Due to Rs 30 crore unavoidable recarpeting and maintenance work, the runway was non-operational for take-off and landing during 10.00 am to 6.00 pm since 16th of April this year.
Flight operations during the entire ongoing summer schedule starting from 27 March were disturbed due to runway maintenance work. Some operators had to shift their flight operations to early morning or late night hours, while some flights were canceled for summer schedule and some diverted to Vadodara airport.
The maintenance work as per the earlier estimates was to complete in the first quarter of next year, but in view of Vibrant Gujarat Summit scheduled to take place in January next year, the recarpeting and maintenance works of runaway were speeded up and now are completed.
However the summer schedule ends at the end of this month, and therefore effect in flight operations will be witnessed only in the next month when winter schedule kicks off.
Flight operations from 1st October onward will be possible during the afternoons.
In that sense, announcement of winter schedule will remain much awaited.
