Highway side hotels oppose NHAI notices

Surat:National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) has issued notices to hotel operators whose hotels are located on national highway and asked them to obtain license. Hotel Association has however opposed this move complaining that it’s harassment.
According to hotel association president Arun Shetti and vice president Sanat Relia who held a press conference on this issue in Surat, the hotel operator needs to pay Rs 10,000 to submit an online application. They have to pay Rs 2 lakh as consulting fee to government appointed agency. Later Rs 1.50 lakh amount is needed to be paid in NHAI in order to obtain license for in and out connectivity between hotel premises and highway.
Hotel association claimed that the industry already py 7 different types of taxes. There are already 10 different licenses in existence that are obtained from the state and central governments.
The association has decided to take this issue before the Prime Minister and Road and Transport minister through letter and email.
