Fire safety NOC issue:AMC claims to complete action against defaulters by Mid-December

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today informed the Gujarat High Court about action taken against the high rise buildings in the city which have not obtained fire safety related NOC so far and gave assurance to the court to seal the other such buildings by Mid-December.

In an affidavit filed by the Deputy Municipal Commissioner, the court was informed that the municipal body intends to take action against over 300 defaulters by mid December. It said that it will seal such buildings and units. The court however directed the Municipal Commissioner to file another affidavit.

The division bench comprising Justic M R Shah and Justice A S Supehia had on September 14 instructed Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar, who was physically present before the court, to take action against such 972 buildings within two weeks. The AMC later conducted an operation and sealed over 400 units in various high rise buildings in the city.

The Court on an earlier occasion also expressed dissatisfaction with an affidavit filed by the Municipal Commissioner in the matter. The affidavit said that in over 2,400 highrise buildings in the city, 972 buildings do not have the no objection certificate (NOC) of the AMC with regard to fire safety ie fire NOC. Of these 3 buildings were without any fire safety equipment. The list of such non-compliers include well know buildings like Acropolis Mall, Gulmohar Mall, LIC buildings, Rajasthan Hospital, May Flower Hospital among others.
