Chamars will be identified as Rohits in govt record: Gujarat CM takes decision

Gandhinagar: In response to representation made by Gujarat Rohit Samaj Sangathan, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Vijay Rupani has taken a decision to identify a segment of dalits associated with leather work as Rohit.
Rohits are 40% of total Schedule Caste population in Gujarat.
With this decision, all government offices, government and private schools, colleges, gram panchayats etc will need to replace the word ‘Chamar’ with ‘Rohit’ in records.
Not just this, but the pockets identified as Chamarvas so far will now onward called Rohitvas.
Additional directives in this reference are issued by Social Justice and Empowerment department, Government of Gujarat.
