GCCI reiterate boycott call for Chinese goods

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) today reiterated its appeal to boycott Chinese goods and promote Indian Items to protest the pro-Pakistan stance of China.

A meeting of the over 55 affiliated member associations and regional chambers was held in GCCI premises here.

GCCI president Bipin Patel later said that even though India is a significant trade partner for China in whose favour the mutual trade balance is skewed by $52 billion, it favoured Pakistan and terrorist Masood Azhar during the recent developments. China is also constantly blocking India’s attempt to get a permanent seat in the security council of the United Nations.

‘We must give a strong signal to China by boycotting its products. We should start boycotting such Chinese goods in the beginning which had led to the closure of many of our small/cottage industries. Later we should prepare a strategy to deal with such Chinese things for which we lag behind technologically. Currently the Chinese economy was seeing a downturn and boycott from us would give them a strong blow and message that its behaviour can’t be tolerated,’ he said.

‘Things like China made toys, computers, mobile phones, electric appliances , fire-crackers, kites, strings, ceramics etc should be boycotted immediately and awareness regarding it should be spread among youths and kids,’ he said.

The GCCI president said that if the need be a representation to the state and the central government would also be made in this regard.
