Ahmedabad: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) today said that the Muslim community in India should end the evil custom of triple talaq at their own similarly as the Hindus in the country ended such customs including Sati Pratha through internal reforms.
Addressing a press conference here today RSS Gujarat unit’s head (Prant Sanghchalak) Mukesh Malkan said that the Muslim community should come forward at its own to end the evil custom of triple talaq.
‘It should be done by the Muslims themselves. The evil custom of Sati Pratha in which a woman had to die in the name of religion after the death of her husband by sitting in the funeral pyre was ended by Hindu community itself despite opposition from conservative lot. Like wise the Muslim community in the country should rise against the triple talaq and abolish it at their own,’ he said.
The RSS leader said that evil customs (Kupratha) is essentially bad irrespective of the religion to which it is associated with.
To another query regarding boycott of Chinese goods, Mr Malkan said that the stand of RSS is quite clear on the issue as it is in favour of the boycott of all foreign made goods except technology which should be adopted for the good of the people.
Replying to yet another question Mr Malkan said that it was not correct to say that the RSS has control over the central government.
‘There are several steps taken by the government with which we don’t agree. Opening the defence and other sectors for 100% foreign direct investment are among them. In our recently held All India Executive meet in Hyderabad also we had condemned the increasing hold of multinational companies on the world economy. We believe in development through indigenous means and self dependency. So it is not correct to say that the RSS has any control over the government. In fact it is the people of the country which can control the government,’ he said.
