Exams, emergency services not part of bandh call: Gujarat Congress

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress president Bharatsinh Solanki and Leader of Opposition Shankersinh Vaghela in a statement said that school/college/university level exams, emergency services and medical facilities are excluded from tomorrow’s bandh call. Both leaders appealed party cadres to extend cooperation by ensuring that bandh call is observed using Gandhian ways, without causing damage to public property.

The leaders in their statement making appeal to observe bandh tomorrow said: BJP government in centre has imposed demonetization without concrete planning for it and through that the government has put people of this country in difficulties. The intention of one-day ‘Bharat Bandh’ call is for ‘mukti’ from difficulties that people are facing for last 15 days due to demonetization move. Businesses and trades are stalled, farmers are deprived off fertilizer, seeds, laborers are without employment and daily bread, big industries are cutting the number of jobs, incidents have happened where patients are not treated due to lack of cash, students and parents are facing difficulties in payment of school-college fees, those who are hosting wedding function are pushed to difficult situation. BJP led government in centre has committed ‘prajadroh’ in name of demonetization, opposing which the Congress party has given call of Gujarat Bandh.

They further said: BJP led government in centre is changing its decisions daily to conceal its failure which proves that the decision to impose demonetization was totally absurd. Instead of coughing out black money from corrupt, black marketers, rich and industrialists, the government has compelled people of this country to stand in queues for hours. People are pushed into dangerous situation. Even after standing in queues for hours, people are not able to utilize their hard earned money. With such decision the government has attacked employment of farmers, farm laborers, cattle rearers, laborers, common-middle class people and small traders.

Solani and Vaghela said: Over 100 persons have lost their life. Immature and Tughalaki decision of banning Rs 500 and Rs 1000 note has caused great difficulties to 6 crore people of Gujarat. Congress party demands that Reserve Bank of India make proper arrangement. Gujarat Congress is committed to protect the rights of farmers, cattle rearers, those into cultivation of vegetables, laborers, small businessman and common-middle class people.

They said: Congress party favors elimination of black money completely, but taking people in ban is something that can’t be tolerated. Even after 18 days, people are still standing in queues. The Prime Minister has implemented bogus scheme to win the election of Uttar Pradesh. The decision to ink the people is like a blot. Without enough preparations such as availability of change and Rs 100 notes, the Modi government has put people in difficulties. The BJP has made its anti-farmers stand clear by prohibiting exchange in district cooperative banks in which APMC, commodity, market yard, farmers, milk producers do cash transactions.
