Polling for 2 municipalities, 1 taluka panchayat, vacant local body seats underway in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Polling for Vapi (Valsad district) and Kanakpur-Kansad (Surat district) municipalities in Gujarat is taking place today along with mid term poll for Gondal Taluka Panchayat and by-election for various vacant seats across the local bodies.
According the information received from the state election commission a total of over 2500 polling employees have been deployed for the election and by-election. In all around 1500 policemen have also been deployed for it.
The main contest is said to be between the ruling BJP and main opposition Congress.
11 ward Vapi Municipality has 44 seats while 7 ward Kanakpur-Kansad has 28 seats on stake.
The Gondal Taluka panchayat in Rajkot district, which is undergoing mid-term poll has 22 seats.
Apart from this, by polls for 18 seats of various municipalities, 7 of district panchayats and 15 of taluka panchayat are also being held today.
The polling started at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm. The counting of votes would take place on November 29.
