AAI team visits the site of proposed new airport of Rajkot

Rajkot: Airport Authority of India(AAI) team early this week visited the site for proposed new airport of Rajkot and gave its inputs.

The land for proposed new airport has been earmarked in Hirasar village on Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway. The AAI team suggested that 6 km long piece of land will be required in north-south direction for runway of proposed airport which will be 4 km long and 1.5 km wide to make landing and take off of heavy Boeing plane possible.

The land selected at present is 2750 acre in size. Earlier the direction of runway was suggested in east-west alignment. However, the AAI team went through wind velocity data and suggested it should be north-south.

For making north-South runway possible, more land wiwll be required toward Garida village and Chotila side.

Provision of Rs 700 crore is likely for airport project. Earlier Rs 275 crore amount was approved.

Collector Dr. Vikrant Pande, Additional Collector Harsh Vora, Prant officer Pargnesh Jani, IMD officials and local airport officials were part of those who visited proposed airport site with AAI team.

Sample of land was taken by AAI team and inquiry was made regarding annual rain figures.

Meanwhile in his speech today in Rajkot, the state chief minister Vijay Rupani gave assurance for allotment of enough land for international airport in Rajkot.
