Gujarat govt announces assistance for potato and tomato produce transportation

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government has taken a decision to provide assistance to farmers for transportation of potato and tomato. According to deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, the government will provide Rs 750 per metric tonne if farmers do export of potato or tomato via road transport. For railway transportation the assistance will be Rs 1150 per metric tonne and for export it will be 25% of transport cost but maximum in Rs 10 lakh limit. Patel Said potato and tomato prices are down at present and therefore the government has decided to extend assistance. The state this year witnessed sowing of 1,24,000 hectare potato crop while tomato crop covered 45,000 hectare area.
