Ahmedabad: Five time world champion woman boxer and Rajya Sabha MP M C Mary Kom, who has also won an Olympic medal, yesteryears’ superstar Sridevi and Poonam Dhillon participated in the inaugural session of the 60th all India Congress of Obstetrics & Gynecology of the Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) being hosted by Ahmedabad Obstetrics & Gynecological Society at Gujarat University and Convention Center and launched Nari Swasthy Pahel a Women’s Health Initiative of the outfit.

The 3 day Convention to be concluded on January 29 has a participation of over 9000 doctors from across the country.

FOGSI is a professional organization representing practitioners of obstetrics and gynecology in India, with 223 member societies and over 30,000 individual members.

On the occasion of inauguration yesterday, Mary Kom said, “Coming from a small village in Manipur where we have very basic women’s health care and not many doctors. I am very impressed with the new initiative of the FOGSI – Nari Swasthy Pahel that will help thousands of women with better health care given by the best doctors from across the country. I support the cause whole-heartedly and support the new initiative”.

Bollywood Actress Sridevi Kapoor said, “It is a matter of pride to be a part of the initiative which is a very noble move. As a mother of 2 daughters I understand the need for women’s health care, education and awareness in this country”.
Actress Poonam Dhillon said, “ It is a very good women’s health initiative which will engage and interact with the young Indian women from across the country to educate them, share their view point and make them aware of the importance of hygiene, health care and solve myths and facts”.

FOGSI promotes preventive and therapeutic services related to health care of women and children, serves to advocate the cause of reproductive and sexual health and rights and considers the reduction of maternal mortality in India as its primary mission.

During the inaugural session swearing in ceremony of the 61st President of FOGSI, Dr. Rishma Pai along with the new committee members and office bearers also took place and Award ceremony to Doctors for their contribution to FOGSI & Medical Care was organized.

FOGSI will be carrying out the interactive sessions on health and nutrition across 150 schools in the country with inspirational video messages for the children by legendary singer Asha Bhosle and Bollywood actress Poonam Dhillon. There will be FOGSI youth conferences and specialized conferences of Infertility, Endoscopy and Oncology during the three day event.
