Rs 190 crore new building of Govt hospital inaugurated in Jamnagar

Jamnagar: The Chief Minister of Gujarat today dedicated Rs 190 crore newly built building of MP Shah government medical college in Jamnagar.

A 1290-bed capacity hospital has 23 departments. It has Saurashtra region’s first rank blood bank active in its premises where 350 thalassemia patients are offered free treatment while 500 patients undergo dialysis. In near future radiotherapy center will bring new ray to patients suffering from cancer, said Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister took note that GG hospital in Jamnagar(earlier Irwin hospital) functions since 1926. MP Shah college is associated to GG hospital. It was launched in 1954 starting with 60 students. The number is now 200. The college has given more than 8500 MBBS and more than 5000 specialist doctors to nation.

Chief Minister said new medical colleges are to be started at remote areas such as Dahod, Amreli and Tapi under new health policy. The government will allot government land and Rs 15 lakh per seat per year. In urban areas, the government will allot land and Rs 25 lakh per seat per year.
