Notorious drug smuggler wanted in Gujarat, Vicky Goswami arrested abroad

Ahmedabad: Mamta Kulkarni’s husband Vicky Goswami was arrested by US forces in drug smuggling case. Vicky, a drug mafia was in the most wanted list. American agencies arrested Goswami from his temporary home in Kenya last evening. Along with him, the police have also nabbed two of his associates, Ibrahim and Baktash Akasha.

They are all deported to America, and will be tried there in court for smuggling drugs illegally into the country.

Vicky Goswami, who had spent a good number of years at a Dubai jail for drug-related offences, has been named as one of the masterminds in a huge consignment of drugs seized in India.

In one of the largest drug hauls in the country, the Thane police confiscated 18,627 kg of ephedrine worth over Rs 2,000 crore.

Five people had been arrested, including two from the shut unit of a pharmaceutical company Avon in Solapur. Punit, one of the other masterminds, had met Vicky in 2013. Vicky was routing drugs from the US through Gujarat into various cities of India, the report stated.

Vicky is alleged to be the drug lord of Zambia and has spread his drug racket far and wide. In 1997, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Dubai for trafficking about 11.5 tonne of Mandrax. He was, however, released in 2012 on grounds of good behaviour. Vicky forged a relationship with the actress while in Jail. They were reportedly living in Kenyan capital Nairobi before shifting to Dubai.

Vicky, who hails from Ahmedabad, entered into illegal drug trafficking at a very early age in life. He is the son of a police officer working for Gujarat Police. He married Mamta Kulkarni, who had starred in hit films like ‘Karan Arjun’ and ‘Baazi’ in the 1990s. She was last seen in forgettable films ‘Censor’ in 2001 and ‘Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum’ 2002.
