PM Narendra Modi declares 8 State Highways in Gujarat as National Highways

Bharuch: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi whils speaking at Bharuch in Central Gujarat today announced central government decision to convert 8 state highways in Gujarat to national highways. The total length of these highway stretches is 1200 km, said Prime Minister Modi. The highways according to him will see investment of Rs 12,000 crore. The highway stretches declared national highways are:

– Una – Dhari – Bagasara – Amreli – Babra – Jasdan – Chotila
-Nageshri – Khambha – Chalala – Amreli
-Porbandar – Bhanwad – Jamjodhpur – Kalawad
-Anand – Kathlal – Kapadvanj – Bayad – Dhansura – Modasa (tribal belt to be benifitted maximum)
-Lakhpat – Gadhuli – Hajipur – Khavda – Dholavira – Movana – Santalpur (tourism development and border security aspects involved)
-Khambhalia – Advana – Porbandar
-Chitroda – Rapar – Dholavira
-Khambhalia – Bhanvad – Ranavav

PM in his speech said this decision will result into reduction of accidents.

He recalled that due to the decision by then Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel to expand the Ahmedaabd-Rajkot highway, number of accidents could be reduced in the past.

“When Keshubhai Patel became Chief Minister he made Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway four-lane. He used to travel through this highway and he was aware how risky it had become. Accidents used to happen near Bagodara almost on daily basis and many lives including our many senior BJP leaders had been lost due to accidents. Even I used to get calls late in the night for help. With conversion to four-lane incidents of accident were fewer. The national highway network will be designed in such a way that it will be safer,” the PM said.

The PM who was sharing stage with Road and Transport minister Nitin Gadkari said the credit of conversion of state highways to national highways in Gujarat goes to Shri Gadkari.
