PM Narendra Modi’s address to citizens of Surat at airport

Surat: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today reached Surat airport at 2.13 pm on two-day Gujarat visit. He was received by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, local MP CR Patil, Darshna Jardosh, Chief Secretary, Police Commissioner Satish Sharma, Collector Mahendra Patel among others. The Prime Minister arrived in Indian Air Force plane. His arrival at Surat was fifteen minutes earlier than schedule.

The Prime Minister in his speech at public reception stage said: This programme was planned suddenly. I was told that people of Surat would not allow me to just pas through and I will need to spare time.So my programme was actually for Bharuch and Dahej, but in this short time, in this heat it is your love, your affection, that came here in this big number and felicitated me here.

I can see medical students here in great excitement. In our health sector there was a complain that there are no doctors, and if we go in root of the problem, it was related to the process of making of doctors. There were few seats in Post Graduation and therefore there were no professors available and therefore there were no new medical colleges. The process was stuck in this. I have now fixed the things in straight line. In one year, Post Graduation seats are increased by 4,000. It means new 4,000 professors in future, and therefore 40-50,000 to lakh new doctors will come out and thus the major shortage of doctors will come to end. Health services in rural areas will be available.

We have taken a new direction in the area of Urban development. I thank Vijaybhai Rupani and his team who have made open defecation free cities of Gujarat. 500 cities across India have set up infrastructure and necessary facilities in order to eliminate the open toilet practice and bring cleanliness. 500 cities are open defecation free now along with lakhs of villages. Tomorrow there’s an event of women in Ahmedabad. Women sarpanch from across the country who have brought revolution are going to attend this event in Ahmedabad and I am going to meet them.

I keep getting updates from Surat. Surati lala(the citizens of Surat) keep visiting me. In entire country, if there’s one city which has on its own strength become a center of economic activities center, it is Surat. Surat has displayed this on its own. Imagine the city of Surat 25 years ago, and compare it to today’s Surat. It’s unimaginable how with hard work and vision, in this short period Surat has achieved such height. Surat has done it. congratulations to Surtis, Gujarat govt, thank you, Bharat Mata Ki Jay.
